What is the most important information I should know about Emtriva?
• Lactic acidosis and severe liver problems, including fatal cases, havebeen reported with the use of Emtriva, alone or in combination with other medicines emtriva. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience nausea, vomiting, or unusualor unexpected stomach discomfort; weakness and tiredness; shortness of breath;weakness in the arms and legs; yellowing of the skin or eyes; or pain in theupper stomach area emtriva. These may be early symptoms of lactic acidosis or liverproblems emtriva.
• Follow your doctor's instructions with respect to high-risk activitiessuch as unprotected sex and the sharing of needles emtriva. Emtriva is not a cure forHIV or AIDS, and you can still transmit the virus to others during therapy withthis medication emtriva.
What is Emtriva?
• Emtriva is an antiviral medication emtriva. It is in a category of HIV medicinescalled reverse transcriptase inhibitors emtriva. Emtriva inhibits the reproduction ofHIV in the body emtriva.
• Emtriva is used to treat the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), whichcauses the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) emtriva. Emtriva is not a curefor HIV or AIDS emtriva.
• Emtriva may also be used for purposes other than those listed in thismedication guide emtriva.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Emtriva?
• Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have
· kidney disease; or
· hepatitis B (HBV) infection emtriva.
• You may not be able to take Emtriva, or you may require a dosage adjustmentor special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listedabove emtriva.
• Emtriva is in the FDA pregnancy category B emtriva. This means that Emtriva isnot expected to be harmful to an unborn baby emtriva. It is very important to treatHIV/AIDS during pregnancy to reduce the risk of infecting the baby emtriva. Talk toyour doctor about your treatment options emtriva.
• It is not known whether Emtriva passes into breast milk and what effectit may have on a nursing baby emtriva. To prevent transmission of the virus to uninfectedbabies, it is recommended that HIV-positive mothers not breast-feed emtriva.
How should I take Emtriva?
• Take Emtriva exactly as directed by your doctor emtriva. If you do not understandthese directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you emtriva.
• Take each dose with a full glass of water emtriva.
• Emtriva can be taken with or without food emtriva.
• It is important to take Emtriva regularly to get the most benefit emtriva.
• Treatment of HIV/AIDS almost always requires the use of two or more drugs emtriva. If you need to stop taking one of the medicines you are taking for HIV, youshould stop all of them until you can talk to your doctor emtriva.
• Your doctor may want you to have blood tests or other medical evaluationsduring treatment with Emtriva to monitor progress and side effects emtriva.
• Store Emtriva at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and directlight emtriva.
What happens if I miss a dose?
• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember emtriva. However, if it is almosttime for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take thenext one as directed emtriva. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless yourdoctor directs otherwise emtriva.

• If you experience a rare but serious allergic reaction (difficulty breathing;closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives) to Emtriva,stop taking the medication and seek emergency medical attention emtriva.
• Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur emtriva. Continuetaking Emtriva and talk to your doctor if you experience
· headache;
· nausea or diarrhea;
· darkened patches of skin on the palms and/or soles;
· skin rash; or
· redistribution of body fat (loss of fat from the arms, legs, and faceand increased fat around the neck, breast, and trunk) emtriva.
• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur emtriva. Talk to yourdoctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome emtriva.
What other drugs will affect Emtriva?
• Emtriva may interact with other medications resulting in reduced effectivenessand/or side effects emtriva. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any otherprescription or over-the-counter medications, including vitamins, minerals,and herbal products during treatment with Emtriva emtriva.
